The Picture above is a model of the actual bridge because when the battle was over the Romans went back home, and they disassembled the bridge as they left. Also the triangular wood structure above is what the Romans used to drive the wood poles into the ground. On the structure there was a giant rock that they would drop onto the wooden poles.
Caesar's Bridge Across the Rhine
The reason why the bridge was built was because Julius Caesar had killed people he was not supposed to. As a result of the killings, the Senate began to investigate into him, and Julius needed a dramatic distraction, so he built the bridge. This bridge was built in only ten days, and they built the bridge as they crossed the river. The people on the other side of the river had to wait for the water to freeze before they could cross, but not the Romans. They used the bridge as a sign of power and Julius said, "These were the reasons that had made me decide to cross the Rhine. However, I thought that to cross in boats would be too risky, and would not be fitting for my own prestige and that o the Rome. And so, even though building a bridge involved enormous difficulties, because of the breadth and depth of the river and its strong current, that is what I thouhght i must attempt, or else give up any thoughts of taking the army across"(1) http://www.roman-empire.net/children/builders.html
